A new milestone for clinker cooling technology

Claudius Peters' ETA Cooler exceeds 13,000 tonnes per day in China

ETA Cooler, the concept for cooling clinker in the cement making process announced by Claudius Peters Projects GmbH in 2004, has reached a new capacity milestone with more than 13,000 tonne/day model going into production earlier this year in China.

Since introducing the ETA Cooler principle to the cement world in 2004 with the first 2000 tonne/day installation at a Holcim Cement plant in Switzerland, the technology has been widely acclaimed over traditional and competing technologies for its efficiency and versatility.

Over the last decade or so the company has progressively offered the market increasingly higher capacity models, now reaching 13,000 tonnes per day – currently the world's highest capacity cement line production. Even higher capacity is feasible.

Due to its unique design, no dust removal system is required with ETA Cooler and the relatively long stroke action means a low grate speed, which in turn means less wear and maintenance. And, as there is no obstructions to the clinker flow in this moving floor technology, a high transport efficiency is also achieved, with uniform cooling, thus improving the quality of the clinker and in turn the quality of cement produced.

Retrofit option
This all adds up to lower operating costs with increased reliability and product quality. Moreover, ETA Cooler has a very low construction profile, virtually guaranteeing it can be installed as a retrofit option to any existing cement producing line. Its modular design also means that ETA Cooler can be installed with minimal production downtime.

Managing Director, Reiner Frühling: "Claudius Peters has a long tradition of innovation in the cement industry and we are very proud that the 13,000tpd ETA cooler marks yet another milestone for the industry and for our company.”

In the 1950's Claudius Peters introduced its first 500 tonne/day continuous grate clinker cooler and since then the company has forged a solid reputation in this field, with literally hundreds of installations world-wide.

The Claudius Peters company was established in Hamburg, Germany, in 1906 by its eponymous founder. The company, which employs around 600 people, has been part of the British engineering group, Langley Holdings plc, since 2001.
