Pulverized Coal Injection

The injection of pulverized coal into a blast furnace has become the most important secondary fuel for iron making. The advantages of pulverized coal injection are obvious:

  • Replacement of 30 to 40 (up to 50) percent of the coke charge
  • Substitution of existing oil or natural gas injection
  • Reduction of fuel costs
  • Reduction of pollution of coke making
  • Lower capital costs by investing into coal injection system instead of coke batteries
  • Return On Investment between 6 months and 3 years

Claudius Peters has supplied:

  • The first dense phase distributor system in 1984
  • 52 pulverized coal injection systems for blast furnaces
  • Coal injection systems with 15 million tons per year total capacity
  • The world’s largest coal grinding and injection system with a today’s capacity of 320 t/h  to ILVA, Taranto in Italy
