This approach favours the selection of mobile equipment, such as wheel loaders, trucks and dumpers, rather than automated solutions based on stackers and reclaimers.<\/p>\n<p>But CAPEX is only part of the picture. A new assessment tool from Claudius Peters Technologies SAS (CPTSAS) now enables customers to look beyond initial CAPEX and accurately calculate the total cost of ownership (TCO) of both mobile equipment and automated systems. This has previously been difficult to quantify in way that could be easily incorporated into budgets.<\/p>\n<p>TCO takes into account not just CAPEX but also the operating costs (OPEX) of equipment. And here automated systems have the advantage over mobile equipment with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lower fuel and power consumption<\/li>\n<li>Lower maintenance costs (lower wear, spare parts requirements etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Lower labour costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These benefits add up to substantial savings over a 20-year operating period. In one typical example, the TCO of an automated system with stacker and reclaimer was less than half the TCO for mobile equipment (Table 1).<\/p>\n<h6><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1488 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/claudius-peters.whattheframework.uk\/de-de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/typical-material-handling-table.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1043\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.claudiuspeters.com\/de-de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/typical-material-handling-table.jpeg 1043w, https:\/\/www.claudiuspeters.com\/de-de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/typical-material-handling-table-300x55.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.claudiuspeters.com\/de-de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/typical-material-handling-table-1024x189.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1043px) 100vw, 1043px\" \/><em>Table 1.
